So

Here is latest Buzz in Town, WebEx for IPhone?

WebEx, one of the most widely used Remote administration Service across the globe now a part of Cisco Family. In their own words – “It combines real-time desktop sharing with phone conferencing so everyone sees the same thing as you talk. It’s far more productive than emailing files then struggling to get everyone on the same page in a phone conference. And, many times it eliminates the need for people to travel and meet on site.” Which is true Indeed.

Being a networking troubleshooter or kind of geek its always a treat to know about Remote” thing or anything new regarding to it. We have used WebEx client for remote admin-ing the User Side Machines and its really been a great Experience. Its Fast, no hefty download. Just a Click and RUN. there you have the remote admin for the side you want.

Though WebEx for IPhone is really not all about remote, the Applications is designed specifically keeping in mind for People who are all about “Work on the Go”.  and on the top of it an audio voice conference supporting the meeting is really a positive attitude towards the whole application. “WebEx meeting uses WebEx audio conferencing, you’ll receive a call after you tap the “To join the meeting on iPhone” link. Answering the call automatically places you in the audio conference. Then go to the iPhone Home screen and tap on the WebEx Meet icon to join the Web portion of the meeting.”

The Mimimum requirement to have this thing get going in sync with Ipone is – iPhone OS 2.0 and above; active cellular or WiFi connection (the application will not function in Flight Mode).ALso , “An attendee can join the web portion of the meeting on an Apple iPod touch on WiFi, but will need to join the audio portion from a phone ” (how cool is that.)

Demo for the application is available at – http://m.webex.com .About presenting the contents from your own IPhone, still not supported.Though, If you have a WebEx account and have scheduled a meeting, you can start your meeting from the iPhone and then assign presenter privileges to one of the attendees who joined on a computer.

More Info Why and Who uses WebEx – http://www.webex.com/who-uses-webex-and-why/index.html

There is no cost to download the WebEx Meeting Center application on the iPhone, or to attend any meetings you’ve been invited to join. Regular telephony/phone charges still apply, please check with your carrier for more information.

Interested in Buying, get it from Exclusive online Apple Store.

Hola Amigos !

Here we go again, this time i had this weird thought of trying out the 64 bits Workaround with some other adapter rather than the normal cards. So we took a WMP110 (IEEE 802.11b/g/n PCI Range Plus Wireless PCI Adapter) and a Windows XP 64 bits machine to try it install and working. First, it was like Impossible searching different resources and digging google to the extent (up to page 20 in the search results, Lo_0L) !!

Came out with one result.only can try some hit and trial stuff and see if its get it up and running and also, “wisemen “had said Correctly, “To learn something, Don’t ever hesitate to do something new and different. Regardless to the outcome or Result. ” Okay, Enough of the philosophy and lets get it grooving.

First, We put the card inside the computer onto the one of the Empty PCI slot located on to the motherboard or  the chipset of the CPU. Restarted the computer, once done. Accessed the Device manager (NOTE – no use of installing the disc came along with the Adapter as it sucks a big time in 64 bits case),got the device listed as network controller under other devices. right clicked > properties > details Tab . device ID or Instance ID.

We found, VEN_XXXX and DEV_XXXX these are the codes for the chipset VENDOR and the DEVICE version.

This is the most important thing as many a linksys adapters are based on different third party chipsets so its really not unhealthy to know which one you got. Atheros,RaLink etc.One got the VEN and DEV codes, google’em up.In our case we had VEN_1871, got RALink N series chipset in the result. (Result may differ i heared, someone got atheros too.) Now this is just for the vendor, after doing this we googl’ed a bit more about DEV ID and found a reference to RT2760 Card from RALink Stable. Downloaded the drivers for the Card.

Guess what, Right after the end of the installation of the drivers it recognized that unknown network controlled automatically and installed it rightaway without even asking (Lo_0L).The next was to check, if its really working or No? Chek this out

WMP110 with 64bits Xp

WMP110 with 64bits Xp

Truly an outstanding performance with almost 200MBPS on Wireless LAN if using a Wireless N router. And with a little more workaround, it could garner around 300MBPS and working Like a Charm.

Mission Accomplished, WMP110 Installed Successfully on 64bits O.S.

Hell Yea.

With the Launch of this So Called Unified Computing Data centers, Cisco’s cat is finally out in open. Now, if we see one side of it,truly indicates the versatility of the biggest networking hardware and peripheral manufacturer in the technology market today.Cleary, this could be a breathtaking step to take advancement in the fruitful and rather bright market of high end enterprise servers Market or also as some says a “clash of the titans” with the Likes Of HP, DELL etc.Mainly HP,as there were rumours about cisco entering into server business just to show HP what they are capable of.

As posted in this gigaom.com article, about the startups HP should buy in view to counter attack cisco’s foray into server market.Though after a series of speculation, bloggers at cisco trying to clarify their entry into a whole new market as an innovative approach. Cisco Blog says – Unified Computing is not going to be a single-vendor closed system for the entire data center.  We are not advocating going and doing a forklift upgrade or rip/replace on existing data centers customers have.

Lines from Cisco Blog -  Virtualization made this Unified Computing market possible.  It also made the test and qualification of 1000’s of applications (a traditional barrier to entry created by the incumbents to justifiably reduce customer risk) much less necessary than before.  Virtualization also made the workloads portable, even across vendors, thus we fully expect to be happily inter-operating with other vendors in traditional server markets for many years in the future.

well it was obvious for networking to play an important role in any sort of high end enterprise data center though by evolving 10 gigabits per second ethernet foundation with consolidated access to storage area networks (SAN’s) and network attached storage (NAS) based on a Cisco Blade server w.r.t Future intel nehalem Processor Families (a.k.a future Xeon Server processors) also a patented extended memory technology is surely an amazing treat for a handsome enterprise Data center.

Resulting, lowering of cost by reducing the number of adapters, switches, cables.provding fast connectivity to network storage resources at the same time, also operable by a graphic user interface supporting applications with large data sets and allow significantly more Virtual Machines per server.

Whatever the speculations are,Cisco’s move isnt bad at all. After all, “there’s always a room to try new things or learn newer things” .

Well

its been a long time since i posted the last post. A few days back, someone called me up asking , Hey G’ How are you doing? I said, I am good. Thank you.

How About yourself? Reply came, am good too. Later i asked him if i know him anyway. he said we guys met a few days back around in a Local Cyber Cafe. I admit that my memory Sucks though never expected such a Scene anyway. The guy was all tensed about his New VOIP vonage- linksys router (RTP300). He said, G. I am all stucked up budd. my router has stopped responding, cant seem to get through with Vonage thing though Internet is working on the computer Perfectly.I told him about, doing power cycle and normal reset.

The guy Agreed, said might give a call if required? I was doing a discussion with the Cyber Cafe owner in implementing the Wireless Environment using Linux Systems. Currently he is operating 12 Machines on Win XP. Tired of Crash disks, unknown errors etc. i made the suggestion to opt for either Ubuntu or Linux. In the midst of discussion my 910i rang again, and it was expected this time. The same Guy had the problem with this RTp300.

He was like dying without the Vonage Phone connection as it was given in for the business use by his Firm. Well, i aint no Voip guy. so Cant  seem to figure out about the thing with this Vonage connection.

While i was about to turn away from the guy’s issue, had a weird thought of giving in a visit and take a look at the problem. Ticked and done. I was there outside his home, which is like passing by four streets across mine.

I went in, a hearty welcome the guy did. cheked the Light status on the RTP300. Internet light and Ethernet Lights were active w.r.t power light. The phone Lights were a miss??? Tried different things, cheked for the Latest firmware on linksysbycisco.com, No Resolution. Quite Disheartning was i feeling, that moment. Not able to fix a simple Phone router. Lo_0L! Tried checking online, found out almost every other Vonage user is coping with such a problem and firmware version being revised by the Vonage people only. Accessed web user interface for RTP300, status internet ip and stuff is there though Under voice its in the process of registration ?

Giving up all the options, came a real uncommon thought. why dont i Just “hard Reset” the Router itself ? Thought wasnt that bad, ‘i took a pen pushed into the reset slot on the back of router and at the same time unplugged and plugged in the power cable of router twice within one minute.’ Finally unplugged the power for at least a 2 minutes and plugged it back in.

My my my,after waiting for almost 5 minutes connection came. It was Like a Charm. Cheked the reciever getting the dial tone and the Phone 1 Lighten up and began flickering. WOW! Ofcourse, i also tried Disabling third party or Router firewalls. No Use, just Hard Reset did the trick .

The Guy, Thanked me. telling me, he was stucked on with the same router since last night. was so Frustrated, shared business cards and became real good pals.

This Solution may be Applicable in following error codes-

Error Code 204 means that the phone lines are not registering with the Vonage service.

Code 003 is unable to reach Vonage’s configuration server and Code 004 is unable to register the phone line to Vonage’s network.

:)

Yet again,

This one too is the most common error people usually get to face, while installing a hardware device sometimes.(USB,PCI etc.) Once right clicked on the hardware name listed in the device manager on the properties option. Under Device Status, generally this kind of screen appears -

Reason : If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message – Error code 10 , windows cannot start the device or hardware.

Also ,The HARDWARE key stores data about the computer hardware that the system detects. This key is recreated each time the system starts. It includes information about devices, and about the software drivers and other resources associated with devices.

Solution : The first and formost thing to do in resolving this issue, is to Update the current driver versions or reinstall the hardware drivers into the computer. just right clicking on the hardware name in the device manager and choosing Update hardware Drivers, there you go. It resolved my Issue on at least 10 times or something.

Though it may not be taken as a granted solution, on a two occasions i wasnt able to resolve the issue.so i took a look onto Web Sphere and found out useful information from Microsoft Developers Networks.

Incompatible, outdated, or corrupted device drivers – If the device was preinstalled on the computer, and the computer manufacturer does not have an updated driver for the device, visit the device manufacturer’s Web site.

Device configuration issues – Make sure that the device is enabled in Device Manager.

Make sure that the device is enabled in the computer’s BIOS. For more information about how to do this, see the system documentation. You can also contact the computer manufacturer.Disable advanced features for the device.Adjust the configuration settings for the device.

Software and operating system updates – Use Windows Update to install the latest updates for Windows XP or vista.

The last option did the trick on those two occasions, updating the O.S.

Hope this helps you too.

Wzzz good ?

So here i am up again, highlighting the most common issue people usually encounter while installing a new USB or PCI device into a computer. This is an error comes usually as ‘windows cannot start new hardware device’.Well it sounds like so frustrating when u spent almost a few hours understanding how to use the device and trying installing it then this silly error. Yup, i know it piss’es off sometimes. After talking Nuisancely,Must i come to the bottomline.

Cause : A windows or any system runs on a definite File registry Hive which is also known as System HiveThe main reason behind this error is due to, the system hive has exceeded its maximum size and new devices cannot work until the size is reduced. Specific devices that are no longer attached to the computer but are still listed in the system hive might cause this error.

Solution : Just take a look into your device manager and check which device is not being used by you and your computer lately. Just uninstall those devices. Uninstall and Reinstall the Drivers for the specific hardware you want to Install. It worked for me. should do for you. Else , No Other option Just to ReLoad your Windows O.S.

OR

You can use this procedure to view details about devices that are installed (that is, their device drivers are started) but are not currently attached to the computer.

By default, Device Manager does not display devices that are installed but not currently attached to the computer.

To see devices that are not present, you must do two things. First, you must change settings so that you can view hidden devices. You must also set the environment variable DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES. This procedure shows you how to do both.

Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To view devices that are installed but not currently present

  1. To create the environment variable, click Start, then right-click Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. In the Tasks list, click Advanced system settings.
  3. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  4. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
  5. Do one of the following:
    • If you want the variable to affect only the currently logged on user, in the User variables for username section, click New.
    • If you want the variable to affect all users of the computer, in the System variables section, click New.
  6. In Variable name, type DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES.
  7. In Variable value, type 1.
  8. Click OK three times to save your changes.
  9. In the Tasks list, click Device Manager.
  10. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.
  11. Click View, and then click Show hidden devices

Hope This helps.

This could be the starting to a whole new project known as “Code-dhoomketu” aka “NETKETU”. Just wanted to show up a different side of me with this blog , something about what i do at my workplace. Its all geek out there. So, here i am with this first post to the blog i am actually giving in a new dimension for being – Gaurav Bagdi.

Few days back , i had a pretty typical or kind of most common issue nowadays with the linksys Users and customers. The wireless adapter mainly PCI series and USB series of them or most of othem are either not compatible with Vista or Not working good at all with Vista. Officially , Linksys just started providing the support drivers for vista machines on their website – http://linksysbycisco.com/ though Still many a user are coping with the driver installtion problems .

Most of them are 64 bits users . Somewhat , something stucked in my mind and i said okay lets give this a try. I tried myself with a WMP54G v4 thats a PCI series wireless adapter from Linksysbycisco Stable. And tried installing it on Vista 64 bits , result No Change . Windows cannot start the hardware or install the Drivers . Drivers werent appropriate .

After spending almost 2 hours on googling , researching i got to this point.

See the Image-

Well if you guys are equipped enough to understand what this image shows then that indicates, i made this WMP54G working absolutely fine with Vista 64bits. Though a little tweaks and Workarounds were needed , Finally i got’em working . :)

Steps to follow :

1. uninstalled the adapter from the device manager , if tried installing already .

2. Dont Run the Set up DISC , it aint good for nothing .

3. go to this link, and download the drivers http://www.4shared.com/file/89337841/561c48fe/RT61_PCI_mPCI_CB.html

4. run the SetUp , after completetion of Set up just put in the adapter into the PCI slot. In my Case it automatically recognized the Adapter and installed it by itself else once you put in the adapter it will show you found new hardware wizard at the time of reboot and even try going into device manager and right click on network controller and click update drivers and just map the driver folder for Ralink RT61 in the browse path .

It should help , if not Just post the problem in comment or mail me at dhoomketu@live.com or dhoomketu@live.in :)

have a geek Time  , ppl.
